School's Program
With support from the New Brunswick Environmental Trust Fund (ETF), the Kings County Region Solid Waste Commission implemented a WET/DRY pilot project at the Apohaqui Elementary School beginning in September 2009.
To date we have purchased inside waste bins, blue/green bags, sorting lists, exterior bins, banners, posters, etc for the pilot school.
Students also toured the Westmorland-Albert facility to see how their hardwork helped the environment.
A hauler was engaged to pick-up the sorted waste at the pilot school and take it to the Sussex Transfer Station for shipment to Westmorland-Albert.
School District #6, School Staff, Custodians and Students have been very supportive of the initiative and, with the support of the Environmental Trust Fund (ETF), we look forward to implementation of a mandatory system throughout all Schools in our Region in the Fall of 2010. Stay Tuned!!
To help students, teachers and the general public understand how the Wet/Dry Program works, we have created a great learning tool that you can download and print off.
